Describe the supporting surface
Specify a pale tabletop, dark wood desk or neutral plinth. The object needs a believable point of contact. A background that looks attractive by itself may fail when the lamp appears to float or its base sits at an inconsistent angle.
Match the light to the source
Observe which side of the original lamp is brighter. Ask for a setting with compatible illumination unless you deliberately plan a broader relighting edit. A strong shadow pointing against the source highlights can make the composite feel wrong even to viewers who cannot explain why.
Keep props subordinate
Add only the few items that explain the setting, such as a closed book in a reading corner. Avoid a forest of stationery around a small lamp. Background details should provide scale and context without covering the product or competing with its silhouette.

Practical question
Why does a clean background still look artificial?
Check contact, perspective and light direction before adding texture. A small mismatch in the shadow beneath an object can be more noticeable than a lack of decorative detail in the background.
