Choose the most informative source
Prefer a view with the complete lamp shade, stem and base visible. Avoid a dramatic crop that cuts through the feature you need to preserve. If several photos exist, select the one with the clearest geometry rather than the most attractive surrounding room.
Inspect edges and bright areas
Look around the cable, shade rim and narrow gaps. These areas can be difficult to separate from a busy background. Check whether bright highlights have erased surface detail; an enhancement step cannot reliably recover facts that the source never recorded.
Write a preservation note
List what must remain unchanged: lamp proportions, switch position and finish. Then state the intended edit separately. Compare the result with the original side by side, paying special attention to the listed features before judging the overall polish.

No. It may improve perceived clarity, but missing or clipped detail can be guessed incorrectly. Use a better source photograph when a specific construction feature must be represented accurately.
